About Me :)

Untitled240.jpg

Welcome to the Sapphic Cryptid Page! It’s nice to have you here. You can call me Venas Azules! (pronounced Veh-nahs) I’m a 20-year-old Mexican and Agender Artist. I have an affinity for character design/development and 2d animation, and hoping in getting into the field! So far, I have been in two art exhibitions, Including the new virtual Manifest dystopia! I tend to make art about living with intersectional identities, such as mental health,  trauma, Feminism as a Latine & First Gen person, and Gender identity/ Sapphic Sexuality. However, I also love drawing all things considered femme or pretty as I love the style and by extension can show my love for women as a sapphic! My pronouns are They/them though I don’t mind he/him. A lot of the topics I discuss in my more heavy art are often ones I deem as lesser acknowledged or seen as very uncomfortable to talk about as the imagery is relatively blunt and opens up a space of vulnerability. Negative self-perception, its long-term effects, and the past trauma that may have influenced it are things many people stray from discussing which is why I believe it’s so important to capture through art. Since I was young, these topics often plagued me as well and I did my best to avoid them by hiding who I was. I struggled heavily with my identity and it’s several intersections, going from label to label over the years both from my own exploration and due to pressure from others. I’ve reached a point in my life in which I feel I have gotten more grounded and am getting to really learn how to be my own person, without having to mask for others as much as I used to. This is why I’m pursuing art that makes me happy and makes others like me feel represented, even in a small way or in more casual contexts. I firmly believe there is no such thing as “Forced Diversity” in media, only bad writing/research. It shouldn’t be controversial to depict POC, LGBTQ+, Neuro-divergent, Disabled, Body Diverse, & any other minorities as prominent or several roles in art and media and I'll continue to try and make diversity further normalized in media.
