For this project, I plan to give a small view of what identity struggles, specifically about both gender identity and sexuality, can do to one's self-perception throughout life. It will be in total eight pages (including cover and back cover), sketched on paper, edited in photoshop, and digitalized in Illustrator before printing. I am aiming for a one-page zine but might also try other forms, such as four-fold or half-fold zine, to see which looks best. I want to represent the journey of queer identity by depicting several characters based on myself at different stages of life and how I saw myself at those stages due to the ideals pushed onto me by others. They are all connected but also all have their own theme to represent about the journey and how the detachment from your identity can make one change so many times that when looking back, all those stages seem like different people as they change drastically, not only in an appearance but the mind as well. A lot of these characters' design elements are even sourced from old art of myself in combination with old pictures, to stick to accuracy. Motifs of religious trauma will be present as the characters' status changes from angels to demons depending on how their self-perception changes. Although the events shown will be very connected to me and my personal journey I believe with the added symbolism, anyone could grasp that it’s about queer struggles and dissociation. I plan to finalize it with my present self facing my youngest self and giving them the comfort they deserved and that I wish I could have had at the time. Below is a gallery with old art I took inspiration from for the designs
