For this project, I am trying to make a type of abstract sound that reminds me a lot of a niche type of horror I've been interested in these last few months! I'll be experimenting with a lot of effects that create distortions similar to corrupted files and give off a vibe of generation loss. This type of horror has been around for a bit but it's only gotten more popular recently, it's called Analog Horror. As the title suggests, it's a type of abstract horror that usually relies on replicating the vibe of Analog technology (such as records ,cassette tapes, VCR's, touch tone telephones, etc.)and how unsettling and distorted things can become via it's natural corruption over time. It often deals with themes of the uncanny in imagery as well to convey that things have gone wrong but it cant be instantly placed as to what. My favorite part about this genre is how None of the visuals have to be over the top or extremely detailed to be unsettling because the degradation of the footage and especially the audio's role in setting the tone, is enough to make it creepy, so visual jump scares aren't really needed. With this in mind I'm hoping to create an auditory experience which is not meant be traditionally enjoyed but rather it want to be uncomfortable and for it to be clear that there is something wrong. The specific works I'm taking inspiration from are The Mandela Catalogue, The Walten files, Battington FNAF VHS tapes, and The SMILE tapes.
